It explicitly does not cover site furnishings like benches, tables, or independent shade structures, those sit outside the equipment specification entirely.
Why the revision cycle matters for bidding
ASTM revises this standard roughly every 3 to 4 years, and each revision reflects real changes in how injuries are studied and prevented, dimensional clearance requirements, dynamic equipment handling, fall zone surfacing guidance. A dealer bidding against an outdated internal spec sheet risks submitting equipment that no longer meets the current requirement, a disqualifying error that has nothing to do with price or capability.
The practical takeaway
Confirm the equipment being bid meets the current F1487 revision before submitting, not the version that was current the last time a bid went out. A solicitation that references the standard by name is referencing whatever version is active at the time of the bid, and that has changed as recently as 2025.
